Ingredients

Sushi Rice
1 cup Japanese short-grain rice
1¼ cups water
2 tablespoons rice vinegar
1 tablespoon sugar
½ teaspoon salt
Filling
1 cup cooked shrimp or grilled chicken or beef (thinly sliced)
1 avocado (sliced)
1 jalapeño (thinly sliced – optional)
2 tablespoons fresh cilantro (chopped)
Rolling & Sauce
4 nori sheets
3 tablespoons chipotle mayo

Equipment

  • Bamboo sushi mat
  • Sharp knife
  • Rice cooker or pot

Method

Step 1 – Prepare Sushi Rice Wash the rice until water runs clear. Cook with water, then season with rice vinegar, sugar, and salt while warm. Let it cool completely.
Step 2 – Prepare Fillings Cook your protein (shrimp, chicken, or beef) and slice thinly. Slice avocado and jalapeño, and chop fresh cilantro.
Step 3 – Lay Nori and Rice Place a nori sheet on a bamboo mat. Spread an even, thin layer of sushi rice over the nori, leaving 1 inch uncovered at the top.
Step 4 – Add Fillings Arrange the protein, avocado, jalapeño, and cilantro in a straight line across the center of the rice. Add chipotle mayo.
Step 5 – Roll the Sushi Using the bamboo mat, roll the sushi tightly away from you. Apply gentle pressure and seal the edge with a little water.
Step 6 – Cut and Serve Slice the roll into 6–8 equal pieces using a sharp, damp knife. Serve immediately.

              Notes
